It's Everywhere!

Think less more
Get outdoors
See friends, or
Take a walk
Reach my front door
Feel less sure
There's monsters
Everywhere

Island Nation

I form grimaces from shapes.
See twisted faces in the planks of the floorboards when I stand right here.
Today I’m thinking of the gold
in the mouths of people laid in the ground.
And I am thinking of the food people buy and then throw away
that rots to muddy wine in the dumps
And I am thinking of the sicknesses
you only get once you come to the hospital
How the granules of the dirt are weathered fraction of the past
and underfoot you’ll find today for millennia
Psychedelic oils hidden in the cracks of the pavement
that slide cars into the trees when it rains
But don’t take it as a bad mood – take it as a bad mood
I call nothing a bad mood now
But don’t take it as a bad mood – take it as a bad mood
I call nothing a bad mood now
There’s just what you’re honest about when
I think of grit in the air
incorporating to grey milk in our lungs
All the places in the world where you walk down the streets
and nice days are those where nothing blows up.
And the infinite hypothetical
where there’s a list of all the hours all things last.
But don’t take it as a bad mood – take it as a bad mood
I call nothing a bad mood now
But don’t take it as a bad mood – take it as a bad mood
I call nothing a bad mood now
There’s just what you’re honest about when

What’s up?
Oh my
But quick recall this world was never not absurd its whole while
So what’s left?
That’s right?
It’s tough when all the truth you’ve got is only foraged and wry
We know
Less now
Never has what one eye can see collected less of it all
In the good times you forget the world’s essentially weird
In the good times you forget the world’s essentially weird
In the good times you forget the world’s essentially weird
In the good times you forget the world’s essentially weird
In the good times you forget the world’s essentially weird
and in the bad times you just think that it’s bad

Deeper and deeper, darker and darker
The meanings get scarcer, implications get starker
Darker and darker, later and later
Stay up stare at the ceiling while events keep replaying
Weren’t the people I passed today more haggard and grimmer?
Weren’t their eyes dead of spark where there had been a glimmer?
With each new ruse to keep on two things new rise to tire us
Each new hour feels worse cause its forebear conspires
My arms harder to lift. My throat more and more virus
It feels fruitless to feign life but some urge says I must
N’I no longer reach places without hours of wandering
Find myself at the river, watch the river for hours
And that squirrel cross the park – what is that that he’s chewing?
Is it an acorn? or a finger? eyes play tricks since it happened
Take cold showers then hot ones, hormones flail since it happened
Time advances without patterns since the moment it happened
Keep one eye facing skyward since the moment it happened
Keep one eye facing phoneward since the moment it happened
Walk the street and almost think life hardly seems different
But things shift on my ceiling through the night z’ai relive it
Later and later, brighter and brighter
Something glows o’er horizon, but it’s too soon for sunrise
Brighter and brighter, iller and iller
To the banks again at dawn the town stares at the river
Iller and iller, iller and iller
The whole town’s at the banks, where they stare at the river
Iller and iller, iller and iller
There’s not much to do, we just stare at the river

Dots in the Snow (II)

In the dream it’s not
What I’ve always thought
That I’m surrounded by what I see
There’s no river, just
some neuron burst,
Earth is blank at my feet
oh what…
fiction raids the mind if eyes go un-denied,
believe it in spite.
Lock the cell from inside
At first things seemed fine but I didn’t give up
‘Cause there’s never nothing there
At first things seemed fine but I didn’t give up
‘Cause there’s never nothing there
Oh there’s never nothing there if you stare long enough
There’s never nothing there if you stare long enough
There’s never nothing there if you stare long enough
There’s never nothing there if you stare long enough

Wounded Animals (III)

Deeper deeper the woods I venture, chasing the unseen creature
The air and its howls become one
The print of hooves makes a figure stranger than any I’ve seen here
What sight awaits if it ceases to run?
Then the world upends I think’f massive ecosystems 'round us
That we’re moving through, but aren’t of
Where indescribable creatures hunt indescribable creatures
Leave ‘em bleeding white dots on white snow
We look back out through the branches at that world that still has us
In its clutches; but what’s old is all new
But we’ve always been one moment, a weird detail unaccounted
From an untenable stance on what’s true
Then let us pause while we’re pondering on the state of our knowledge
What do we know? And what do we not?
I’ve had a problem forever that I struggle to tell whether
It’s a dream or a thought while I sleep

Things Go Quiet
04:32
|

I need us to talk about this thing that’s been happening
of feeling I’m home any place that I pause in
How today when I sat on a bench at the station
felt the world fold around me, tell me to stop moving
Draped a blanket around me, so thin could not see it
and the message just be glad that you’re not yet not present
And it scared me, it scared me, as I got up in leaving
that I’d hear it again and would soon start to heed it
Feel computer screens have come to be the eyes through which the world I see
so life must be the dream when computers go to sleep
and I suspect we can wander through the night, it’s not important
we’ll be magically transported to our seats in the morning
What’s the furthest you think around the world we might manage
‘fore they wake up and see we’re gone, and pull back on our harnesses?
Could we cross a sea?
Could we cross a sea?
Could we cross a sea?
And all these years recently, only skill I’m acquiring
Is to will to pass more quickly all those hours I find trying
Make the dull days move faster. Greet the dull days with pushing
But what is all life speeds by, can’t pull back once you’re rushing?
Then bad habits encroach. Bad habits engrain
Until you’re one day just bad with good habits by mistake.
And I’ve forgotten my fear of words written on the temple:
Right now life is living you.

The Renunciant
05:04
|

Wake up in my driver’s seat
Bumper sticker ahead says 'Life’s Ecstasy'
Gaze around at the cars, people on the street
I believe that so this aint life surrounding me
’Cause I’ve let all be replaced by the things I’ve heard
All’s events of the world, but none’s what’s inher’nt
All’s big columns of smoke but none’s why things burn
All’s the wink not what’s seen while the lid obscures
Then let the force of the earth crash in through the roof
Grind me up into nothing and then let me loose
Make me only my stuff but no more my rules
I’ll be free as a cloud ’til my vapor cools
And falls back
When drop-ing
out looks like
real life
then
what
have I
become
Wake up this time to another sound
Of laughter blared from the tv but no humor’s found
When the world’s passing by but you’re not on board
Every sound that you hear is an ad of sorts
’Cause there is only one rule, as was taught to me
Life has only one rule – it’s the leger sheet
That you suffer and gain in the same degree
He’s an outlaw, the man who lives worry-free
‘N those were criminal days when we didn’t care
That was criminal breeze that whipped through our hair
The great god of allotments has now dealt your share
And the sun shines right through you when you meet his stare
‘Cause you’re gone
You’re no more
You’ve dropped out of your life as it seemed before
You’ve dropped out of your life as it seemed before
Pretty vines
grow across
your eyes,
good night, for now
Dawn's just
if you like
And then you wake up this time you’ve just napped a while
On the beach of a lake in the sky a mile
The grand depth of the blueness seeps its way inside
Time’s not drawn a thread, it’s just sand in piles
And the impossible’s true you’ve forgot the world
Colors burst through the lens lived in grey before
May you not dwell on whether you’ll go back or when
Just lay your head on the sand, invent sleep again

Nail the windows with boards up; find a space small and cubic
Social fabric tears fast in our martial republic
Brace to argue, fer mud slinging, for another hard rainin’
For no election can slay the dark beast of campaignin’
Only freedom, only choosing, only room for decidin’
Is which sources feed you info; 'cause death and taxes, news cycle
But Economics, of attention: live your side of the fissure
til reality yields to the new market pressure
And oh say And oh see
And oh my and oh me
All that's red waves a little bit to me
We were promised, Constitution, the first line as I remembr’is
they will build a new nation. They'll pursue me my happiness
Here’s my address, Mail a package, with proportions to specifics
Of the food for my body, so it’s wide to my preference
Land of gimme, land of what’s next, of improving through getting
All my days and all my dollars – turn to stuff but leave me wanting
And all you don’t like; is a sickness; but courage, you will be better
hear the end of this ad, then ask your doctor whether
Is Stunesta FOR ME
Is Vinagra a ‘for ME’
Is Calypso for Me
Make a whole list For Me
And oh say, And oh see
And oh my and oh me
All that's white waves a little more to me
Ground is trembling, cuz they’re marching, ground is aching and smarting
Sky is jumping, cuz they’re jabbing, with the slogans placarding
Networks air it, they’ll dissect it, you might call them a hero
but know the purpose of the news is just you tune in tomorrow
Does it matter, does it matter, while one hand there’s no denying
It’s just our lives, it’s just a country, all brief somethings transpiring
Place gone crazy, place gone stupid, but when your mood gets sardonic
Recall the hundred years of humor in each crack in the sidewalk
And oh say, and oh see
and oh my, and oh me
all that's blue waves most of all
America, how I love you, just keep your promise to me
Stay your neon, pink and crackly, while its dark outside
America, how l love you, now keep your promise to me
Stay the vastness of the west, never fit in a frame
America, how I love you, but keep your promise to me
Stay the snowglobe in the giftshop to your wonders
America, I still love you, just keep your promise to me
May not go home, but you will not sleep here

Then head-wrecked and heart-rent
time-robbed and point-missed
pocket-stripped, worth-naught
Plain-born and bald-gone
And Loved-weren’t, flak-caught
Fear-with and doubt-fraught
Low-bent and back-wrought
Past-lost and now-what
Us-through and I-alone
World-weird and ill-known
Self-sought and not-found
Land-spoiled and drifted-‘round
As fault-vague and blame-vain
Next-dull To-come-inane
So ‘what’-rich and ‘why’-resigned
We wait for the headlines
Since things had been good, I forgot the world
Since things had been good, I forgot the world
Since things had been good, I forgot the world
Since things had been good, I forgot the world
Since things had been good, I forgot the world
Since things had been good, I forgot the world
Since things had been good, I forgot the world
Since things had been good, I forgot the world
